The fibre
Install Process
Ready to enjoy faster, more reliable internet? Installing fibre at your home is easier than you might think. Here’s a simple guide to what’s involved in getting your fibre connection up and running.
Step 1: Check Your Address
First things first, use our easy Address Checker to see if fibre broadband is available where you live. If it is, you can compare deals and choose the right provider for you.
Step 2: Choose a Provider
Once you know fibre is available at your address, the next step is choosing a broadband provider and plan. Different providers may offer different speeds, prices, and extras like free modems or installation perks.
Tip: Look for a provider that matches your household’s internet habits—whether it’s gaming, streaming, remote work, or all of the above.
Step 3: Fibre Installation Day
After you sign up, your provider will organise a time for a technician to visit your home. Here’s what typically happens:
Site Visit: A technician will assess how to bring fibre from the street to your home. They’ll discuss the best cable route and where to install the fibre box (called an ONT – Optical Network Terminal) inside your house.
Work Begins: Sometimes, this means digging a small trench or attaching cables along a fence. The technician will take care to minimise disruption and get your approval before starting.
Inside Setup: Once the external work is done, they’ll install the fibre box inside your home and connect it to your modem or router.
Important: Someone over 18 needs to be home during the installation.
Step 4: Get Connected
Once everything’s installed, your provider will activate your fibre connection. You’ll usually be online that same day, ready to enjoy ultra-fast speeds for work, play, and everything in between.
Quick Tips for a Smooth Installation
Pick a clear location inside your home for the fibre box—near your main devices if possible.
Ask about modem placement for the best Wi-Fi coverage.
Be home for the whole appointment, just in case the technician needs your input.
